Emirgan Hamid-i Evvel Mosque was built in 1781 by Sultan Abdülhamid I to the mother of Mehmet, one of his princes, who died at an early age, and his mother Hümâşah Hatun.
The mosque was named after Sultan Abdul Hamid I; The expression "Hamid-i Evvel" means "Abdul Hamid the First".
