History

Ferruh Efendi Mansion was built in the mid-19th century by İsmail Ferruh Efendi, who served as a protocol officer in the Ottoman palace. Initially, it was used as a private residence for a single family. During this period, the large structure with a brown wooden facade remained as the harem section while the small building, painted in red (tambour), became an independent selamlık section.

On a foggy day, a cargo ship passing through the Bosphorus collided with the sea front of the mansion, resulting in severe damage to the selamlık section. The remnants of this part, which turned into ruins, remained in the area until the early 1970s, after which it was demolished and a new structure was built on the site. The remaining haremlik part of the mansion was registered as a cultural asset in 1971 and has been protected since then. Today, the historical haremlik building of Ferruh Efendi Mansion still exists on the Bosphorus shore, but it is not open for visitors as it is privately owned. The building located where the selamlık section was is also used as a private residence. Due to its historical value and its place in the cultural heritage of the Bosphorus, Ferruh Efendi Mansion continues to attract interest; indeed, it was chosen as the home of a character in the series Aşk 101, which was released on Netflix in 2020.
