History

The story of the Marquise Necip Bey Mansion begins with a love. A French aristocrat converted to Islam to marry Melike Aliye Hanım and took the name Ahmet Necip, and at the end of the 19th century, he had this mansion built by an Italian architect. The mansion started to be referred to as the Marquise Necip Bey Mansion, taking its name from this person.

However, the history of the mansion has been marked by some misfortunes. Shortly after Ahmet Necip Bey acquired this magnificent mansion, he passed away from a heart attack. In the following years, the mansion experienced several fires, and one of its owners went bankrupt. Due to these unfortunate events, the structure was referred to as "unlucky" among the public for a period. In 1978, the mansion was purchased by the famous businessman Erdoğan Demirören, and in 1983, it was almost completely turned to ashes in a major fire. Thanks to the restoration carried out with the help of experts brought from abroad, the mansion regained its former grandeur and left behind its "unlucky" reputation. Today, the mansion is still owned by the Demirören Family and continues to exist as one of the dazzling historical buildings of the Bosphorus.
