History of Beylerbeyi Mosque

Beylerbeyi Mosque was built by Sultan Abdulhamid I in 1778. The Sultan built this mosque in memory of his mother, Rabia Şermi Sultan. The architect of the Beylerbeyi Mosque is Mehmet Tahir Ağa, the famous architect of the period. It is considered one of the structures reflecting the baroque style of Ottoman architecture.

Beylerbeyi Mosque Architecture

Beylerbeyi Mosque was built on the shores of the Bosphorus and has a square plan and a single-domed structure. The main dome of the mosque sits on an octagonal pulley. Beylerbeyi Mosque has only one minaret. The minaret has a slender, tall and elegant appearance, it was built in accordance with the classical Ottoman minaret architecture.
