History of Feriye Palace

The palace served primarily as the residence of the sultans and the Ottoman aristocracy. Feriye Palace was also used as the compulsory residence of Sultan Abdulhamid II after he was deposed. The death of Sultan Abdulaziz also took place in this palace. During the Republican period, some parts of the Feriye Palace were used for different purposes. The palace, which served as an educational institution for a while, was later idle for a long time. Its construction bears the signature of the famous Ottoman architect Sarkis Balyan.
