History
The founder of the mansion is Mehmet Muhtar Bey, the steward (assistant) of Adile Sultan, the daughter of Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II. The mansion, which was built by Mehmet Muhtar Bey in the 19th century, was one of the magnificent mansions constructed by high-ranking Ottoman state officials on the Bosphorus during its time. After Mehmet Muhtar Bey's death, the mansion was inherited by his sons, Burdur Mutasarrıf (governor) Mustafa Nuri Pasha and Mahmut Aziz Bey, the steward of Egypt.
In the following years, Remzi Bey Mansion changed hands several times; at one point, it was owned by the famous surgeon Remzi Bey and more recently by the Maraşlı family (Feyyaz Maraşlı). In 1971, the mansion was registered as a cultural property that should be preserved by the Council of Antiquities and Monuments. The structure, which is currently privately owned, is closed to visitors. Among the recent owners are businessman Feyyaz Maraşlı and names like Banu Alp from societal life in recent years.
