Ebu Bekir Ratip Mansion

Ebu Bekir Ratip Mansion

The Ebu Bekir Ratip Mansion, located in the Yeniköy neighborhood of the Sarıyer district on the European side of the Istanbul Bosphorus, is a two-story wooden seaside palace in neoclassical style.
With its elegant stance, far from ostentation, its white-painted facade and dark green shutters immediately catch the eye along the Bosphorus. Although it is one of the oldest and most modest mansions in Yeniköy, it is located in one of the most beautiful spots of the Bosphorus and offers a nostalgic view of Istanbul to those gazing from the sea.

History

This historic mansion, built in the mid-19th century by a pasha near the Ottoman palace as a dowry for his daughter (unfortunately, the pasha's name and the year of construction are not definitively known), was purchased in 1860 by the Egyptian-origin Ratip Family and began to be associated with the name of the family's head, Ebu Bekir Ratip Bey. The structure, which was used as the summer residence of the Ratip Family for many years, hosted many figures from the Ottoman and Middle Eastern high society of the time; it has witnessed memories filled with love, entertainment, sorrow, and separation. For example, the engagement ceremony of Princess Fazile Sultan, the granddaughter of the last Ottoman Sultan Vahdettin, and King Faisal II of Iraq is one of the unforgettable events that took place in this mansion.

After the Ratip family, the mansion passed into the ownership of Osman Mardin and was purchased in 1972 by the famous businessman Jak Kamhi. Today, the structure, which remains private property, was registered as a cultural asset in 1971 and is under protection. Ebu Bekir Ratip Mansion, which bears witness to the history of the Bosphorus, occupies an important place in Istanbul's architectural heritage with its story that stretches from the past to the present.
